- Summary: COMPAS Qualité is a quality assurance method with its own set of tools (including interactive software), training modules and consultancy services, which are designed specifically for aid agencies with the overall aim of improving services provided to crisis-affected populations. The Quality COMPAS / COMPAS Qualité method distinguishes itself from other humaniratian accountability and self-regulatory initiatives with its focus on field-level project cycle management. It is the first method of quality assurance produced specifically for humanitarian projects, and includes a strong emphasis on beneficiary needs. The tool is available in English and French and was developed with the input of humanitarian actors between 1999 and 2004.

In parallel to this work on the method, works were conducted to develop software tools for the same objective to improve the quality of humanitarian projects. A first project management software, named the Dynamic COMPAS, has been developed between 2005 and 2009 as an interactive tool to use the COMPAS Qualité method. As a continuation of this software project, a new free software collaborative initiative for integrated project management within organisations has started in 2009: Sigmah (www.sigmah.org).

Assessment
The quality assurance method is designed specifically for humanitarian aid which can be used for two purposes: project management and project evaluation. Its overall objective is to continuously improve the quality of services provided to crisis-affected populations. The tool is available in English, French and Spanish and was developed with the input of humanitarian actors between 1999 and 2004.
