Regional initiatives

Africa

There have been several self-regulatory initiatives developed at regional level within the CSO sector in Africa, although not all of these initiatives are currently active. These initiatives include a sub-regional code of ethics and good practice for NGOs in Central and West Africa, a code of conduct for women's organisations across the continent, and an awards scheme recognising innovation in CSO practice in Southern Africa. If you are aware of any other initiatives, including those in development, please contact us so that we may update our database.

Americas

Self-regulatory initiatives at a regional level are beginning to emerge within the CSO sector in the Americas. The Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC), for example, has promoted a Code of Good Conduct for Caribbean NGOs focusing on internal governance and the relationship between NGOs and other stakeholders at local, national, regional and international level. In Latin America, a regional level working group on the accountability of NGOs has formed.
